    Restarting when go to standby!!!!

    hi,

    iam facing some strange thing with my laptop, i downgraded form vista to XP and now im facing a strange problem, the laptop cant go into standby or into hibernate!!! when ever the laptop try to, a blue screen will show with fast writings that is taking about an error then it simply restart!!!

    can u imagine living with a laptop with no standby or hibernate!!! :confused: :confused: :confused: its more like playing a DVD and u cant just pause it for some time!! and if u r working out side and u need to quickly move and put laptop on stand by, it'll just restart and battery is bye bye....

    can anyone help??

    If the blue screen goes too quickly when it restarts, grab a camera or camera phone and take a photo of it.. that way you can have a look at the message for as long as you like and look up the error number!

    Can't help you on the actual issue though I'm afraid... sorry!

    First, have you checked the Microsoft patches for XP standby and hibernation problems? See here and here for examples. Is the version of XP you used SP2 or something older?

    Next search for newer versions of device drivers.

    A better way is to configure the OS to NOT automatically restart after errors. That way the bluescreen will remain in place until you dispatch it

    Under XP go to My Computer | Properties | Advanced | Startup and Recovery and then turn off Automatic restart. You'll probably want to turn that back on after you get the info you want from the blue screen.

    very true, good one, I'd forgotten about that feature! When I had XP I had it switched on but if you have no BSoDs you kind of forget about it!
