Have you cleaned the dust bunnies out of it lately? Have you noticed it overheating?

Try disabeling the option that makes Windows restart when it encounters a BSOD. Write down the error code and Google it. Could help.
Try another anti-spyware program, maybe you just have a really nasty piece of spyware on your system.

It might be your power supply. If it gets too hot / can't handle the voltage it can restart. It might just be overheating though.

Recent Windows OSs restart automatically when a fatal error occurs, you can disable this option on the Control Panel, when a fatal error occurs it will display a blue screen. Write down the error and Google or post it so someone here can help you with it.

If the system suddenly shuts down without giving any errors you may be dealing with a faulty power supply or hardware component.

If the error happens in a spyware or virus scan, you may have a nasty piece of spyware or virus that generates a Windows error when trying to remove it (they usually pass themselves as critical Windows process and Windows doesn't like it when you mess with critical processes).

Restart the system in fail safe configuration so it doesn't load up with Windows and then run the scan. Also turn off System Restore before doing this or Windows could think that you removed a critical component and and automatically restore the virus thus keeping you in a loop.

In addition to disabling restart on bluscreen, as mentioned above, I would also test your RAM. Often this type of thing is because of bad RAM. See the memtest86 guide in my sig for details.

True get a program called memtest and run a RAM test. I suspect it to be RAM most likely since you're saying it's a notebook.
