    Hey guys.

Right now i have a Lenovo Y410P, which has:
    1TB 5400RPM HDD + 24GB cache SSD

Im considering swapping the optical drive for a Caddy, and then putting a second 1TB 5400RPM drive for raid 0.

I am well aware i will need to do a clean install, however i don't think this laptop is equipped with a Raid card. How can i do Software raid 0 on Windows 7 or Windows 8? I need the extra storage and speed for video editing.

If your laptop does not support such a RAID configuration in firmware, then my advice is: Forget it. You won't get the speed benefits you are hoping for, but your risk of data loss through either drive or software failures increases dramatically.

I gotta ask, why not get a 1TB 7200 RPM drive instead, Hitachi now has one on the market.

You might benefit just buying a little more capacity SSD and/or getting a 7200 HDD.

Your streaming speed should not be over even the inner tracks of the HDD. The problem will lie more in access time of the HDD. With Raid0, especially software Raid0, the access time can actually be increased. this will hurt more than help you out. Your best bet is a large SSD for primary drive and work files and then a HDD in the bay for mass storage........
