Why do some programs start processes when their not even running and auto updates are disabled? For example I got a Logitech webcam I only planned on using on occasion. Not even running it had (uninstalled) three processes running. (that's some buggy software there)

I also have AOL software (I know) for mail and it runs atleast two without even being open.

I've unticked these on start up but they still insist on running processes.

It's always possible to find a place to completely disable/remove a process...

Try running CCleaner and remove them from startup.

Run > services.msc > from the list of services, configure how those program should startup.

Too late for the Logitech software since it's gone. I didn't see it in msconfig. Next time I install it I'll look.

What about AOL which I still use to check my mail?

PS I just set AOL to manual. We'll see how it works now.

    Thanks

The bastard (AOL) reset to automatic. Oh well, I have plenty of RAM and it doesn't use any CPU
