    Free, look into:

    Spybot Search and Destroy
    Ad-Aware SE Personal

AVG or Avast Home Edition for virus protection, I used to use both of them, they worked pretty well.

Spybot Search & Destroy and Adaware - for spywares.

    SpywareBlaster's worth getting too.

There are a couple of big threads here for virus and spyware software, they're worth looking through.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware is best. I've been using various for years now and Lavasoft I like the most.

As for antivirus, take the jump and pay for Trend Micro Internet Security. Under 50, and definitely worth it. Yearly upgrades are fairly inexpensive.

I've made SO much money off people who skimp on virus protection and end up needing the computer to be backed up and completely wiped. Believe me, it's worth the investment and unlike Norton Hogvirus, Trend Micro leaves a small footprint and doesn't take up all your memory.

Check out Windows Defender in addition to AVG, Spybot SD, Avast, etc.

Windows Defender is okay too, except I think AVG AntiVirus (Free) already takes out everything for Windows Defender.

One of the best free firewall programs is Sygate Personal Firewall. You might want to check it out.

Agreed, I also use NOD32, Adware Professional and Windows Defender also between my notebook and desktop computer.
