Hey I am sure someone else already posted this, but my friend told me of this opensource version of MS Office. It comes basically with everything Office does and the interface looks pretty much the same, but this time it's free. Check it out. www.openoffice.org

(and no, I am not affiliated with Open Office at all. Just wanted to share free software info)

No need to appologize. I happened to also know about Open Office, but that doesn't mean everyone knows about it, or has checked it out!

it's an excellent tip! If one or two people who didn't know about it find out about it through your thread, then it was certainly worth posting.

    That's how we all learn....

I wanted to try Linux so I went to Ubuntu and had them send me 5.10. I wanted to install it on a 10gig partition on my notebook harddrive, but couldn't get it to work. The instructions were pretty cryptic and came with a warning that essentially said "know what you are doing or you might wipe out all data on the disk." I then decided to try the psuedo environment (Live CD) by running it from the cd...but after a few command lines, it would hang. I don't know if I received a bad image or what, but either way, I wasn't able to get any linux going  . Maybe I need to try a different flavor?

Me too, but two things in it's way:

    1. Linux is difficult to learn for the novice...I can handle that though :p
    2. Games or very few games can be played on linux...And that I can't accept...and two boot-partions isn't the way imho
