I really really need some help on this subject. I tried to ask on Yahoo answers but all I got was useless answers from complete morons.

So this is what happened. A couple of month back I decided to change my main administrator account to standard account and then I changed my guest account into administrator. So after a week i decided to put it back the way it was so i went to my standard account and tried to change it.

I clicked on administrator button and clicked ok but nothing happened, it still said that I was a standard user. i then decided to go to my admin account and change it from there but it wouldnt let me for some reason. The 'standard' option wouldnt let me click on it. Also for some reason, I cant change ANYTHING. even on my admin account.

I cant create a 3rd account because it wont let me, I cant create a password for my admin account so its all out int he open for anyone to go on to and the worst thing is that I use my standard account as my main account and I CAN NOT DO ANYTHING ON IT, I CANT UNINSTALL DIVX PLAYER BECAUSE I HAVE TO BE ADMIN. I CANT EVEN DOWNLOAD ANY SOFTWARE

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE

    No.

My main account is called joseph whilst my second account is called joseph2. The first account use to be the original admin account until I changed it to standard whilst my second account joseph2 is now administrator but use to be the guest account (btw it does not have password protection and i cant seem to create one because it wotn let me change anything)

I do not have a windows 7 machine here right now but i know this works with windows XP and vista so it should work with windows 7

    Load windows into safe mode

When windows is booting fit F8 till you get the advanced boot menu and select safe mode

once in safe mode you should have a account that is listed as just "administrator" and should have no password

login to that account and go to start>control panel>users

and you should be able to change what ever account you want to be a admin account or change the password

let me know if this works

This answer assumes you are not connected to a domain...
Dude login as joseph2 (or what ever account has admin power)
What U need to do is enable the hidden administrator account, when this is done you will have 3 accounts that you can use, (the 2 you already have and administrator).
I did it in Win 7 and I did not have to use SAFE mode, but I am sure this would work it you did.
Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek

Once you have this adminstrator account without a password, login with it and U can manage the other 2.

To do this follow the above thread and let us know

When ever I do the command prompt and type in that command, it says "access denied". I tried to do it with my standard account as well but that didnt work either, it just said "access denied".

Note: I do not have a password protection on the administrator account.

First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box)

When you right click do you get the option to run as administrator? If you can not do that B4 the command box is launched it will not work

I did all that and there is a button that says 'run as administrator '. I then typed this 'net user administrator /active:yes' and it says "access denied system error 5 has occured"

If I understand correctly, then you're hosed. To me it looks like you do not have an account with administrative rights on this computer anymore. If this is correct, you'll have to re-install Windows.

Pirx, As usual you are exactly correct, thanks for entering this thread. Sorry TMJoseph, I can not think of any other way to fix this. That is why when I set up or work on any win 7 machine I enable the administrator account.

Interesting...in theory Windows Vista/7 has safeguards that do 1 of 2 things:

    1. Prevent one from deleting all the user created admin accounts

    2. Activate the hidden adminstrator account if one manages to switch all user created accounts to standard

Of course, that's theory and in reality strange things happen. I'd back up and reinstall Windows.
