    Hi everyone,

I have a problem with IE7 on my laptop. Though I never used IE on my laptop before now (I use Firefox :D ), I just realized that IE7 is not working on my laptop and I'm running Vista, so I donot have an option to uninstall and reinstall IE. I need to make it work so that I can use Hamachi to create a virtual lan. Apparently Hamchi imports all the settings from IE.

In normal mode when I start my IE and type any URL, it says
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

    .

I get these messages when I'm using firefox just fine which means I'm connected to the internet, I typed in "www.google.com", so I dont think the website has any problems or there are any typos in the URL.

All the settings are at default, no use even when firewall is switched off. The funny thing is it works just fine in safe mode!!

I am directly connected to the internet (no proxy), all other web based programs work fine. I tried disabling all the Add-Ons, resetting the web settings to default, spent endless hours chatting with Dell and Microsoft tech support but nothing helped. I scanned my computer for malware or spyware or viruses, its clean.

I really need some help here guys...Thanks a lot in advance!!

I dint do anything, I just realized its not working because I never used it on my laptop before. I'm and I'll be using Firefox for my browsing. I just want it to work so that Hamachi can work. IE was working in safe mode, so does Hamachi.
If IE doesnt work, Hamachi doesnt work. Thats my problem.

I have a car that does not run...can you tell me how to make it go?

You see, the problem with your original post is it does not tell us anything. What are the symptoms? Do you click on the icon and nothing happens? Do you get an error? Does it load, but the IE window does not connect?

This could be a million different things but without some help from you it is impossible to help you.

Symptoms man, give us symptoms. Pictures. Errors from the event viewer. Anything. Throw us a bone

I'm sorry for my "Bland" post. Here are the details..

In normal mode when I start my IE and type any URL, it says
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
    Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
    The website is encountering problems.

    .

All the settings are at default, no use even when firewall is switched off. The funny thing is it works just fine in safe mode!!

I have no problems when I'm using any other web based program.

    Any help?

    First, the obvious

    In ie7, click TOOLS
Is WORK OFFLINE checked or unchecked?

    Next,
Click TOOLS > MANAGE ADD-ONS > ENABLE OR DISABLE ADD-ONS
Select each Add-on and change the setting to DISABLE.
    Close IE
    Load IE--does it work?

Work offline is unchecked and I disabled all the Add-Ons. Still doesnt work!
The Dell rep asked me to repair OS using one of the boot options when you press F8 during startup. I did that too, no use..

TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS tab

    what is checked?

    Never dial...
    Dial whenever...
    always dial ....

    click LAN SETTINGS
    Anything checked here?
Check AUTOMATICALLY DETECT if not, shut down IE, restart

I'm connected to the internet directly, w/o a proxy server. On lan settings Automatically Detect is checked and everything else is blank. As I said earlier, IE works just fine when I use safe mode on default settings, so there must be some process running in normal mode which is not allowing IE to run.

Google and download hijackthis, then save a log and AS A TEXT FILE (FILE > SAVE AS) then ATTACH IT (do not post) to your next post.

I am not looking for malware. I am looking for what programs or combinations of programs that might cause this behavior

I see parts of Norton Internet Security in there, but not all of it....did you uninstall Norton Internet Security at one time?

Ya I did uninstall Norton at one time. Is there anyway I can fix this? Here I'm attaching another log file when I'm working in safe mode when IE is working just fine. See if it helps..

the tool is the same no matter what...only the instructions on how to reinstall it are different---since you are not reinstalling, it does not matter.

    Click on 2007

Bloody hell!!! It really worked  and Hamachi works too, I never used Norton before as I had many friends who had problems with it. When I was getting this laptop, I had to get it as there was no option to remove it. You are really good..Respect..

Thanks a lot for your help, I've spent hours and hours on this problem. Thank you..

    Enjoy your vacation

    glad to hear it

This is just another example of why I try to dissuade people from using Norton Internet Security--when it works, it works great, but eventually, it will fail and leave you in trouble.

That is why they had to actually create a tool to remove their own software
