    Hello,

yesterday I found out that somehow my Event Viewer and Windows Event Log service won't start anymore. When I open Event Viewer I get an error saying: Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running.
Starting the service Windows Event Log gives me "Windows could not start Windows Event Log service on Local Computer. Error 4201: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by WMI data provider."

Also I found out that some start menu shortcuts are with plain white icon and the programs won't start (Microsoft Office). But that's not so big problem for me.

Any idea how to fix the Event Log service?

    Thanks

Don't bother with the user rights. I think those aren't the problem.

do you have permissions to C:\windows\system32\logfiles directory for writing?
