    Dear All,
Recently I have started experiencing problems saving my excel 2007 files. Every time I hit 'CTRL + S', I get the message 'Your changes could not be saved to so and so file because of a sharing violation. Try saving to a different file'
Can anyone advise as to why this is happening and what a permanent solution to it might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    CJ

    Hi GerryF19,
Thanks a lot for your reply. I went to the link that you suggested and it although it talks about the 'sharing violation' problem it talks about it in reference to files saved in folders on shared networks. Further, it says that a hotfix might be available but then says that you have to be careful with hotfixes and really be sure that the hotfix applies to the specific problem you are having. I am not sure if the hotfix would apply to my computer since it is not on any shared network. Any recommendations?

This is what I read on one of the forums 'Hi Linda,

I don't know if this is what's causing the problem for you, but I've
seen several cases where this was caused by anti-virus software. The
anti-virus software locks the temp file that Excel creates as the first step
in saving a workbook while it scans it. The temp file doesn't get unlocked
quickly enough so Excel throws a sharing violation error. Try disabling all
your dynamic anti-virus scanning and see if the problem goes away'

This solution works, I mean when I disabeled the 'on-access scanner' for my antivirus software, I was able to save the excel file. Does this mean that every time I have to save the excel file, I am going to have to go to the antivirus and disable it ?

that sounds like an extraordinary process.

    What AV?

Did you update office 2007 to the latest service pack?

    Hi GerryF19,
Thanks for your reply again. The AV I am using is the COMODO free version and I do have the windows XP service pack 3 on the computer.
