    Picture Software

    I just got a digital camera (Sony DSC-t1) and will be traveling and taking lots of pictures. I was wondering what type of software to use to clean up the digital images. I'm fairly amature but willing to play with a program till I get it right. Any ideas you have would be helpful.

    The best program by far for editing photos is Adobe photoshop. However this is v.expensive, large and v.powerfull program which may be a of overkill for general photo touch up's. Thus I would suggest the striped down versions called Photoshop Elements which is also alot cheaper and maybe more suitable for your needs.

    Highlyh recommend PS Elements 2.0. I have PS 7 and PSE 2. PSE 2 can do 90% of my digital editing.

    Yeah, it hasn't done all that well in the reviews but you can't beat the size and the megapixels. It friggin rocks! and thanks to everyone for the program suggestions.

    What kind of notebook will you use for your photography? I always look for anyone using their laptop for this purpose since I'm looking for one.

    You can head over to DPReview.com and check out the Sony forum or a number of other forums to get software advice. I agree that PSElements is a good program & good value. Also Irfanview is indespensible in addition as a default 'viewer' and MUCH more. You don't have to load a big program just to look at your day's shoot. It's free & fast. ( irfanview.com )

    Well I don't have the laptop as of yet. I've been watching this forum now for a long time and I think I'm going to go with the Fujitsu S7010. I'm still looking at the Toshiba Tecera M2 because it has the dedicated video card. I'm going to be travelling on a cruise ship so I'll have a little bit of space and stability. These two laptops will also serve me pretty well when I'm done with the ships and going back to school.

    Which notebooks are you looking at?

    Hey Gatch. I've looked at those too, but I'd hoped to get something for $1500 or under. I've also looked at the CL56/Sagers but there are reports of unevenly lit screen issues........not good for photo work.

    Light weight & good screen quality are my top priorities (after price[ ;)]). I've been watching the forums too for quite a while and have learned that many of the branded laptops are the same...that gets a bit confusing as well.

    I was sure I needed an SXGA screen for photos (I hate the jagged look of pics on a regular LCD), but now I realize too, that high-res will be hard to read since I wear glasses.

    So I'm back to square one. Watching the forums, waiting, learning and hoping at some point things will 'click'.

    Irfanview is indespensible to me. I use it constantly as my default viewer and more, plus in conjunction with other editing software
