    This is my Task Manager...

and this is the mighty PS CS4 64 bit.

As one can see RAM values are different from the two. Why does windows sees the full 4GB (considering my Shared MEM) and why does CS4 see something else?

This is PS CS4 64 bit...

A 64 bit OS should allocate upper memory more efficiently and better than a 32 bit one.

As a piece of Information - Photoshop Elements 6 - kan habe a maximum of 1189MB selected (32Bit OS)

Maybe the Core of Photoshop is 32Bit although the overal application is 64Bit?

My arguments exactly a while back when several NBR members have stated that PS CS4 is a true 64 bit app ;).

Or perhaps, a chunk of your actual memory is reserved for graphics.. Usually it's about 128 MB.. but it could be more, theoretically..

I'm sort of with you. Maybe it is seeing Available Memory (as in what is not reserved for virtual address space) i.e. GPU Ram.

I believe sesshomaru is right. The Available RAM showing in PS's preferences is not the "total" system memory available. For example, I've 4 GB of RAM installed in Windows 32-bit, but in PS CS3's preferences, the Available RAM field is showing less than 2 GB. I'm pretty sure PS is showing only what it can use, because even if you have a discrete video card, some of your RAM will still be used as shared memory. For my GPU, it used 384 MB of system RAM to make it a total of 512 MB graphic memory. Then there are other memory reserved for the system. So I'm pretty sure what is showing in PS is not the total system memory.

    +1

i don´t think photoshop will let you use the memory that is reserved for the windows kernel

    edit //

check the numbers you have posted

4094 MB of ram - 693 MB for the paged kernel = 3401 MB

photoshop shows an available amount of 3477 MB
guess the adobe guys count ram in 1 KB = 1000 bytes not 1024 bytes

3477 MB / 1.024 = 3395,5 MB ( that sounds reasonably close to the result from above, maybe some extra MB are used for ethernet....)
