Hi. Almost ready to buy a new notebook (using Win98SE now). I think I want to go with WinXP Pro, but was wondering if I'd suffer any performance hit for using Pro as opposed to Home. I know a lot more "stuff" (services, processes, etc.) can run in Pro, so I thought I'd ask if anyone knows what the actual, real-world performance difference is between XP Pro and XP Home....when using the same hardware. Thanks.

There is none, at least not that is material. If you don't know that you need Pro though, I'd opt for home and save the $50-$100.

    Frapa,

Will you be using this computer at school (college/university)? If so, it's possible you may be connecting to a domain environment. If this is the case, you must have XP Pro as XP Home will not allow connecting to a domain. Although Brian's suggestion is valid, I'd personally opt to go for the XP Pro. Spend a bit now and you won't have any worries of it not connecting wherever you go.
