Hy everybody ,
i recently bought an Acer 5920G and had Vista preinstalled on it , after fixing some idiot vista glitches i came across another problem ..
i tried to partition the 160 gb hdd into 3 parts , so far so good , i did it using Paragon Partition Manager and checked it with from Control Panel .
I used this config
1 C: - primary ntfs
2 D: - primary ntfs
3 E: - also primary ntfs
after i rebooted the pc , i noticed that E: drive has simply dissapeared , i couldnt assing a drive letter from control panel , only to delete the drive , and from partition manager it showed it as unalocated space
then i tried using various versions , d: primary fat32 , e: secondary ntfs , vice-versa and so on , but every time i rebooted it showed only 1 drive besides C: or just C: leaving merged as unalocated space
what's the problem ???
-
u booted it with vista? u still have recovery partition?
cheers ... -
well , it came with Vista , so yes , i'm booting with it , recovery partition ? nope , cause i had only 1 partition so i took space from that to create the rest , at least that was my intention .. but apparently things arent really working great ...
can't understand what the problem is , once i restart it , i usually loose at least one partition of 3 , but if i set both D: and E: as secondary partition regardless if they are using ntfs or fat 32 , they both "dissappear" -
You may need to have Vista assign drive letters to these spaces.
Go to Control Panel>Administrative tools> Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management.
See if it sees the spaces (partitions) without drive letters. In the right "Actions" column, select "more actions" then "all tasks". You should then be able to give any unassigned space a drive letter.
Good luck

i assinged drive letters for each and every one , and they work until i restart the damn thing and they dissappear .. letters , partitions , it's really annoying .

Just out of curiosity, Are you doing this as an administrator? Vista may not like the partitions created by a third party program. Go to Disk Management again and delete and then recreate the partitions only using Vista. They should stick.
Good luck
Jim -
of course i am , and i did that , without starting a 3rd party program , after a restart , adios paritions

Every Aspire 5920 have recovery partition .It'll be 10GB and can't see from explorer so use vista Computer manager @ admin tools
I also have it -
but i don't really know how or what it's use is .
the main idea is , once i restart , i lose at least one partition (be it NTFS , FAT32 , primary , secondary) out of 2 (besides C
i see that only 149 is actually usable , and C: has about 35 gigs , the EISA parition has about 9.7 and the rest wich i would like to split in at least 2 paritions , i simply can't get more than 1 working .
thanks for taking an interest guys or/and gals
