I tried to install an old game, atomic bomberman, in windows xp mode, but the game closes as soon as it opens, I only see a blackscreen for a fraction of a second. If it matters, I do not have a processor with virtualisation technology.

Just because something is old doesn't necessarily mean it needs to run in compatibility mode. In this case, make sure it was installed in the "Programs Files (x86)" directory. Anyway, have you tried the "Troubleshoot compatibility" in the right-click menu over the main EXE?

Doesn't really matter whether you have VT or not.

XP Mode sux for playing older games because of a lack of 3D drivers within XP Mode. XP Mode wasn't really designed to play games as it was targeted at users who want to run non gaming programs.

I tried getting Colin McRae Rally 1 to work but couldn't because there was no 3D support for the game in XP Mode so I had to go the Windows XP route. Sounds to me as if your problem is due to a video driver issue.

It's more typically a bad programming issue on the part of the game developers. Lots of developers used horrible practices that just happened to work because of the lax security model in XP. Now that Microsoft made an OS with a proper permissions structure, lots of those programs broke. They've done a lot of work to get the various programs running through exceptions and such, but you're best off just not using that software, as that's the kind of stuff that makes systems unstable.

Rather than launching the game from the Windows 7 start menu, start the XP Mode virtual machine from the Virtual PC menu, then starte the game inside Virtual PC. You may get a better look at the error output. You could also review the event viewer in XP for additional clues.

If the game is failing because of the lack of 3D support in Virtual PC/XP Mode, you might have better luck with VirtualBox which does have some support for 3D inside the guest. I tried runnig the game in xp mode box and it didn't work. I guess the 3d problem is right, because it do run in virtual box. Thanks for your help.
