My dad purchased office 2007 enterprise edition for his laptop Sony Vaio SZ...
(His laptop is vista compatible but he prefers XP as he wants a reliable stable OS for)...

Laptop processor: Sony VAIO SZ with Intel Core Duo @ 2.0 GHz

He mostly uses Office Outlook 2007 which is the email client
THE PROBLEM: Its runs damn damn slow.. opens after 1-2 mins

    ...i upgraded the RAM to 1.5 GB DDR2 @ 667 MHz recently...

Still it ran very very slow.....so he uninstalled Outlook 2007 & installed outlook 2003...as he couldn't depend on such slow email client.

    Purchase gone waste???

Does anyone else have any problem with Outlook 2007 on XP???

Is there any way to improve its performance??

As far as i know..XP doesnt have prefetch so is that the reason?

I used Outlook 2007 on XP with a very large inbox, and it was perfectly fine. Do some searching, I think there a was a similar thread before on this.

I have this issue as well with slow load times on my desktop with XP, which should have no issues running it at all. I've notice much quicker start ups in Vista as well for comparitive purpose (I am dual booting).

Also, my Power Point has some error where when I close it, it thinks it errored out and wants to restart. It's really goofy.

Anyway, bottom line is I am experiencing issues similar to yours it seems. :)

You'd have to give more information too about the configuration... Was he connected to an exchange server? Was he accessing it over VPN or RPC over HTTP? Is the exchange server running 2000, 2003, or 2007? All things that have to be considered...

But I've seen no performance difference between Vista and XP using Outlook 2007 with and without an Exchange 2003 connection... There might be something else at fault? Maybe a rogue outlook addon? Maybe Windows Search if that is installed?

I've noticed that Office 2007 feels laggy in XP. Especially Excel. When working with charts and lots of data, it just doesn't feel as natural as it should. Feels like it's stuck in sludge. It wasn't nearly as bad as in Vista.

ive run ofc2007 on both xp and vista and noticed absolutely no difference in speed.

if it's only outlook, and not other office apps, then it's pretty obvious it's not the app or the OS, but rather your configuration that is messed up.

I ran all office 2007 apps including outlook on my old winXP laptop with just 7 hundred something megbites perfectly fine. They had a few minutes start up, but once using it, was fine. You may need to have it configured properly.
