    Advice for mexican engineering students!!!!!!

Today I was walking around my university and saw a huge poster that says: "Free Microsoft software, ask here", I thought ok lets ask what "free" means, I talked with a nice engineer that told me that he could create me an account to download over 200+ microsoft software FOR FREE, ok and I realized that one option was Windows 7 PRO 64bits :). I downloaded it, the system gave me my personal serial code and now I enjoy my FREE windows 7 licence.

If you live in Mexico or USA and you are studying an engineering major I suggest you to ask if you can get your own windows 7 copy for free.

What you're getting is an RTM copy from MSDNAA. This has been available for about a month now.

Yeah... But is original, genuine, the last version, like the other version, and most important IT WAS FREE :D.

I heard that you must be an engineering student in order to get this, good luck for me  .

The RTM is the last, current version. And it's not exactly free, your tuition covers the MSDNAA membership fee.

It's available for ANY Tech student.
    :\

    Not just Mexican ones.
And NOT all colleges have them either.

Only select ones have MSDN accounts.

not really, some academic institutions have volume licenses. like in my girlfriend's university, the IT dept will install the university image on your private laptop. they have agreements with various vendors.

People could easily use a keyfinder to rip the key and then sell it on...?

Though you would need a M$ Win 7 volume license disk. I am not sure if these are generic or bonded with one particular key???

If you got MSDNAA you should have gotten it about a month ago. You dont only get one copy too. You should get 4. English 32bit and 64bit and your native language 32bit and 64bit. All Professional Edition. All keys work on all professional versions so you can install english 64bit four times if you want.

You can only internet activate once but phone activation should always work. Just tell them you bought a new pc.

My brother also managed to get 2 more keys by saying that he needs a japanese version telling them that he is learning japanese.

Wow, behind the times much? Got my RTM (release to manufacturer, so yes it is the actual version) in August. And yes it was free.

Here is the question guys. Actually I have my exams next week, and I dont want to have a bad time getting all the coding software again and reinstall everything like drivers, games ETC ETC (I know that a clean one is better...) and Im wondering if I could do an upgrade instead of a clean installation from windows vista home premium X64 to windows 7 Pro X64 and keep ALL my files, programs, settings and stuff. Thanks in advance :D.

BTW I only got two copies (wich is MORE than enough) the english ones. YEP I prefer to have my OS in english.

If you use Google I believe the answer is no. Home premium goes to Home and Business goes to Professional.

I'm on Vista Home Premium. Since my school does not have Windows 7 Home Premium listed, will it work if I download Windows Vista Business and also Windows 7 Professional and upgrade accordingly?

To add onto this, Home Premium and Business can both upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate, but Home Premium cannot go to Professional.

Makes no actual sense why MSFT would limit upgrade paths like this, but whatever...
