I bought a Dell Inspiron1520 with MS Office.

If I decide to give my machine to my wife, and she doesn't need MS Office, and get a new Dell XPS1530, can I legitimately uninstall MS Office from the 1520 and install it on the M1530? The MS Office CDs came in the 1520 box so I assume I can reinstall from them.

I had ms office 2003 oem cd from my old dell desktop myself. I have installed it on my dell laptop as well without any problems. I think it is legitimate enough to where they will never find out.

The license states that you can install Office 2003 on up to 3 machines that you use. Office 2007 brought it down to two machines (one stationary, and one mobile). So don't uninstall! =D

Meetloaf is thinking of retail licenses...OEM are one-PC only.

Yes, OEM are 1 PC only, and they are also tied to the machine they are sold with, which sucks, but that's why they're cheaper. Hell, it was cheaper for me to sell my old PC and buy a new one with office 2007 installed than to buy the upgrade, which really says something.

Are you sure it's OEM? The Dell price is the same as the retail version. The OEM version is one computer (ever) per key, but the Office 2007 Retail version is three computers (not two), which can change with time, and can be all mobile/all nonmobile.

At least the Home and Student Retail edition is three - perhaps some other edition is two.

Yes, any MS software sold with a PC is going to be OEM...

You can still install and do a phone activation. The people there are comprehensive, most of the time.
