SpyBot AntiBeacon's last update was late 2016 which is my main concern. I have a well-respected tech friend who insists AntiBeacon is still relevant and ideal. I have my reservations considering how much Windows 10 has changed in the past year.

Don't listen to your friend. Use O&O ShutUp. For one, it doesn't brake anything in Windows and for 2,with each new build of Windows 10 there is way more things to clean that come up like for example now we have cloud search and conducting experiments on your machine by Microsoft so you always wanna use a too that's updated. Plus, O&O is a Microsoft partner so they know their tricks better than anyone else.

What are you trying to accomplish here? I use Windows and just doing changes in the Settings should more then suffice for most users you have to dig into those settings to change and that is more then sufficient for everyday users-unless your NSA or DHS that would be something totally different.
