    LCD's have issues with persistent images, too. It's better to just have your monitor power off, though, it saves on the backlight.

    Yes, not to mention the waste of fossil fuels by leaving your monitor on when it isn't doing anything.

    Screw the environment, I want my computer to look impressive when it's idle... just like in the movies! :p

    Seriously though, CRT monitors are nowhere near as prone to burn-in as they once were and LCDs should go straight to stand-by as mentioned above. Screensavers haven't been essential for years.

    We still love 'em though...

    Instead of using a screen saver I just use power management and power off the monitor. At one time people would leave thier monitors on because it would take so long to warm up. But leaving them on would cause burn in. A screen saver allowed you to leave it on without screen burn in. But if you dont have a fishtank or a fireplace, you can get one through a screen saver and not worry about feeding the fish or burning the house down. gl
