Platform Update for Windows x64 based Systems

As optional updates, I've been cancelling IE8, audio and display update drivers as my current ones have given me no problems..

It's a regular, important update for 64-bit versions of Windows. There is a description associated with every update, so for more information, read them.

That's fine, except I would update to IE8. IE8 not only contains many improvements over IE7 in terms of features, but also in security.

    MidnightSun is correct.

Those updates are important for Windows, as they can sometimes fix an underlying problem or bug with the OS. As far as IE8 goes, I'd install it.

In terms of the device updates, you have the right attitude. If your current drivers work just fine, no need to update, as driver updates can really affect performance and reliability.

Platform update. Sounds kind of important wouldn't you say?
