I had Vista Home Premium (x64) running on my notebook when I got Ultimate through my school for 10 bucks, so I went for a clean install.

I found the "windows.old" saved what I needed and deleted it. However I noticed that there are programs installed in the "program files (x86)" folder from when I had 64-bit Home Premium installed... and none of these programs show up in the Uninstall Programs utility.

I didn't notice these until after I had already reinstalled most of them on my fresh install of Vista, so now I have a gig and a half of mostly duplicate programs and I can't get rid of them.

Should I just send everything in the folder to the recycle bin?

It sounds like you upgraded your version of Vista, not clean installed it.

Did you Format your drive before installing Ultimate?

I think i made the same mistake.

when you put in the ultimate disk, and reboot...before you click on next, if i remember correctly, there is an advanced button...if you click on that there is an option to format. I noticed this when i was installing my friend's os for him.

Yep, even if the install says you can't upgrade, you might just be installing Ultimate OVER the Home Premium install.

Don't forget to format your drives! :D

Well, I'm not reinstalling windows again because I've had to do that several times already due to different problems.

Anyways, what's the best way to deal with these programs? Just delete them?
