Is it normal for Windows Vista business to be using 835MB of RAM with no applications running and just AVG, Wireless networking, and Windows Firewall in the background along with the Windows Side bar... This seems awfully high in terms of memory needed to run almost nothing and I'm still working my butt off to make Vista run as fast as I like. 41% of my RAM is ALWAYS in use. With absolutely no exceptions. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's normal for Vista, period.
It's not a bad thing, though. Vista has a feature called SuperFetch, which learns what programs and system files you use most often. It then loads them into memory. The end result is a more responsive system.
This is also the reason RAM is so important in Vista.
Hope that helps. -
Wow... that's really kewl. We're one step closer to Skynet... -

So would you say 4 gadgets on the sidebar is overdoing it? I have the CPU/RAM monitor, Weather, Calendar and the notepad. I don't see why any of these would take up so much RAM...

Nope. You're cool.

Well I guess it's all just the Superfetch then. I've read that after a few weeks Vista almost completely learns your habits and loads those programs really fast. I guess that's why 900mb of RAM is always used. I use a lot of programs so it has a lot to remember. Just my opinion...

Whoaaa, I got a nice update here. The RAM usage goes down like everyday. It used to be around 50% of my RAM used when idle, but it's been creeping down and now only 39% is used when idle. So I guess this thing pretty much has all my habits figured out... Amazing...

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I installed Vista Business on a 20GB partition on my desktop (2.3GHz/1GB/160GB) and it's using just over 300. During the installation routine I was only using a single 512MB stick but it still idles at around 300MB even with the extra stick added.
I've got UAC turned off, all of the little desktop effects including Aero on, the toolbar thing on the right turned off and a variety of services turned off.
Is that normal? -
O_O'
I HIGHLY doubt it... I don't really know at all. My theory, though not backed up by any science, experience, or much knowledge of Vista is that you maybe disabled superfetch so that programs can't be stored in the RAM for fast access...? I've really learned to love superfetch though!
