I recently bought a Toshiba A200 and it came with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. Of course, you don't get the Vista disks with this. Just a recovery disk, which, I understand, is an image of the disk. This means that you can't use this disk to slipstream SP1, you can't use it to repair anything and you will wipe everything off your system if you have to use it to boot from.

Is there any way to get the Vista disks or do you have to buy a second copy of the same operating system that you already have?

There are numerous torrents where you can download a copy of Vista. Perfectly legal as long as you use your own key.

Well I don't know how Toshiba handles that, but I had the same problem with my brand new HP notebook.

I called HP-Support and told them that I'm missing a Vista CD/DVD and already erased my Recovery Partition. So they sent me not only Vista but also a Driver DVD plus XP pro with SP2.

So try it with Toshiba, maybe you are lucky...

You can't slipstream SP1 into Vista anyway. You need a complete Vista + SP1 DVD to start with. This will be remedied in future service packs it's just SP1 that you can't do.

Yes you can, but Microsoft do not condone it.

You can also order disks for $12.99 - in the thread referenced above by Tinderbox, about 1/2 way through, there are links to order the disks posted by hendra.

If I need to find all my drivers, will I be able to copy them from the current installation?

Drivers have been the bane of every computer user, all the way back into the DOS days. Back then, some crappy sound cards(like mine :cry :) needed a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program to help them become compatible with the SoundBlasters that was the standard in computer games then.

    But to help you out,

I highly suggest also that you add your laptop's specs to your signature. This will make it immensely easier to give you accurate answers.
