WMP 11 on my Ultimate wont play the video part of the video file (Windows sample video) ( I get a black screen) but the sound is OK. Plays on Premium and Media player classic so it isn't the file.

Don't know when this started because I haven't used it before trying to play a video a day or two ago. Vista Ultimate- recent clean install.

Anybody have any ideas about how to repair this in WMP 11? Installing K-Lite doesn't help, still have black screen.

It sounds like a video codecs problem ... try diffetent codecs.

well I used both WMP9 and WMP11 under XP with the codec pack FFDshow, conclusion WMP11 is crap because despite having the right codec sometimes I had the same problem as you; sound without pictures.

Now the good news is you'll find an old version of WMP if the 'program files' folder. It's media player classic 6 and it work fine with any codec pack.

I don't think it is a codec, WMP 11 is showing that it has found both the video and audio codecs and is using them to play the video but still no visual, just sound. Same on different formats. I'm beginning to think that WMP 11 is crap also!

I've seen several postings about WMP 11 with sound but no video!

    Update

WMP 11 is broke, no video on any file format but sound OK.

Other players OK, Windows Media center OK

Anybody know how to fix WMP 11?

I finally found the problem, there was a registry key with no owner or permissions! Working now.
