My vostro 1500 running vista ultimate has 72 processes running from start up. About 3 of those are programs I installed, like zone alarm and avg. Can anyone suggest how I can cut down on all the processes to speed up my laptop. I'm not too knowledgeable tbh.

Post screenshot(s) or list the questionable processes and we can help. Also, if you google search some of the process names, you can find info about whether you can get rid of it or not. I can't recall a list of such processes though on the one site, I think www.theeldergeek.com has one.

Bluetooth stuff should stay if you have BT devices that you will be utilising, e.g. a headset, mouse, phone. Don't know if the tray icon is needed.

Digital line cxn, Media Centre stuff, Macrovision, LiveCam, GrooveMonitor, PowerDVD utility, QuickSet, Roxio Tray utility, Synaptics and WMP thing are the ones I would be removing, and I've probably missed some. Of course, some of these utilities are useful and you may just want to not have them run at startup (as opposed to uninstalling them completely).

BTW, alt - print screen does the job instead of snipping :)

P.S - krt, how was the weekend gone? Almost beaten by Spuds! :D And with the trip to blue half of the Scouseland coming, I'd say your season is over.

Awwww well there's always the next one! :) :D

Sad, isn't it? Oh well, still one of the best starts to the league in as many years as I can remember and if past seasons are anything to go by, there may be some improvement as the season progresses. I wouldn't say it's over yet though - in my completely unbiased opinion!

Great link by the way (something to keep this thread on topic!)

@ CrouchCop - Do NOT use msconfig to mess with the services. Use services.msc, like the article says as well.

Funny, how there's a Crouch asking for help and a Scouser (krt) coming to help. Speaking of which, finally, Naffa Benitez realises he is hugely over-rated and useless, and rightfully made him his 4th choice. It's the only good thing Naffa has done. Other than buying Mark Gonzales, and Sissoko! :D
