I recently bought a Compaq C700 from stalpes and it came with Vista Home. I wanted to install XP as dual boot, but it didn't went well and now I can't boot in to Vista or restore it from the restoration partition. I think the MBR might be messed up.

I don't have the restoration disks or Vista OEM CDs.

When I talked to staples they were going to charge me $40 for the restore disk.

    1) Where can I get a free restore disk? Can I get one from Compaq?
    2) Is there anyway I can restore the MBR?

I just wanted to some how get Vista to boot, so I can sell this laptop. I hate Vista

    Thanks in advance :)

What makes you think it's the MBR? What error message (or what else) do you get?
You can probably get the restore disc from Compac. Give them a call and see what happens. Good luck!

    Thanks for the reply.
I contacted Compaq and they said that they will send me the restore discs.
So hope that I will be able to restore with it.
