I need some advice on software to use to make a website/webpages, Im looking for something that is easy to use but can be used for more sophisticated things down the road, I would like something that you can drag and drop a large jpeg that automaticly reduces the jpeg for fast page loading, I am also looking for something you dont have to write code but can opt to do so down the road, I have looked at many packages and there are all kinds of positive write-ups on all of them, thats why I am asking the question here, because people will tell if something is good or not.
So what are you using, I dont want to drop money on a big Adobe package, I just want to make a simple but good looking website with no big frills but would like to add some frills down the road if needed .
    Cheers

    LOL! That's funny. :D

KompoZer (an offshoot of NVU) is a dead project. It hasn't been updated in years. It's also not very advanced. The next big free web design editor will most likely be BlueGriffon. It is actually built on the Gecko rendering engine, the one Firefox (and others) uses. It's still in development, however.

Dreamweaver, on the other hand, is the web design editor that ALL professionals use. You will not find someone half-ways serious about their job using anything but Dreamweaver (or maybe a text editor if they're hard core... I'm getting there). Most Mac users would tell you that Dreamweaver is the best web design tool for Macs as well.

Kurat, if you don't mind paying a premium, go for Dreamweaver.

Thanks Matt: I relly dont need something as elaborate as Dreamweaver, although its great software, I cant justify the cost to what I want to do, Dreamweaver has more stuff I will never use although you can do almost anything with that package, Im just looking for something simple that will do a reasonable job.

Try this OpenSource Gem I've found now Kurat

    Aptana Studio (Community Edition)

Aptana Studio’s community edition is the free, open source Web development environment optimized for use with Ajax libraries and scripting languages like JavaScript, Ruby and PHP. Aptana Studio is considered by many devleopers the best-in-class authoring environment for today’s more rich and interactive Web pages and Ajax applications.

The free version includes the core pieces of Aptana Studio’s editing, debugging, synchronization, and project management capabilities, including pieces for scripting, customizing and extending Aptana Studio.

There is also support for Adobe AIR, Apple iPhone, PHP, and Ruby on Rails development, which comes via additional development plugins - also free.

If you have MS Office - Microsoft Share Point Designer should do the trick I believe.

If you can still get it - Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 (it was free)

Sounds like you're looking for a WYSIWYG editor (what you see is what you get); the Wikipedia article on HTML editors has a list of WYSIWYG html editors.

Take a look at MS Expression Web 2, it's great for beginners to experts, and it's easier to use than Dreamweaver CS3. Many reviews also rated EW2 better than DWCS3.
