    Hi All,

About a year ago I purchased an Acer TravelMate 5720 and since then I have got some major viruses which have slowly depleted my dll files until upon boot up I get at least 10 dll errors, I said I could live with it but I'm starting to notice a serious slow in performance.

So I decided I would back up all my music, photos, documents etc. etc. etc. and do a nice clean install of vista. Unfortunately my Laptop didn't come with Vista disks.

Is there anyway I can get disks for installing Vista on my laptop?

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Joseph

    Note:
I am missing a lot of important dll files so if that changes what my options are well...at least you know...

    Note:
If you think this should be moved to a different area please say or move it yourself if you can.

Did you burn backup disks when you first got the laptop (guess not!!!). Hopefully you still have your hidden recovery partition intact.

On startup of your computer, press Alt+F10, hopefully this should start-up your system recovery. (Before this, make sure you go into your bios and make sure D2D recovery is enabled).

With a lot of laptops you don't usually get any disks, you have to make back-up disks yourself using the software provided.

With acer, it is the eRecovery within the Empowerment Software.

ok I managed to get into the erecovery thing, phew! I'm guessing I just hit "restore system to factory default" and then voilà it's like a new machine. Right? Will this be the equivalent of doing a fresh install of vista with no viruses and all necessary dll files and other important stuff. If I could get confirmation it would be must appreciated. Thanks.

Restore System to factory default is what you want. Basically, this will be a clean install of vista and it will restore the machine to how you got it when you first bought it. It will install everything afresh. It should get rid of the issues you are having.

Yes, it will be as you got it when you bought it. So it will have windows, plus all of the other junk that acer put on it and that is all.

If don't want the acer junk, you'll have to uninstall it once the installation is done.

    Thank! You!

Just after Posting my last question I got the B.S.O.D so I decided then was as good a time as any and restored it. A few minutes later all my problems are solved. Once again, Thank You.
