well...since i have a computer, i feel like taking up a hobby thats more demanding then surfing the web and doing word processing...I have such a good computer yet, i do not use it to its full capacity...so i was wondering what programs are good for me to pick up and learn to use and is pretty fun, other then games of course.

    google earth?

if you just want to use processing power, consider joining a distributed computing project such as Folding@Home. Might not be a good idea with a laptop which is more sensitive to heat.

Im in the same boat. Google earth has tickled my fancy a bit.
I'm trying to get involved in GPS solutions for emergency managment. Basically....playing with GPS receivers and trying to find software that is interoperable with Google Earth and the likes.
