Does anyone know a program like ABR for a Vista computer that does not have it installed OEM? I am trying back up the Key on a retail model.

    Thanks

I know abr works at it works on my Thinkpad which came with Vista, but it will not back up my Acer notebook Vista key which came with XP, but I bought a retail version.

Any ideas would be greatly aprecaited.

_Vista comes with its own backup utility, called the .Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore, which is also called by Microsoft the Windows Backup and Restore Center. A discussion of how to use it can be found on this webpage.

or you can just activate the normal way, only takes like 10 seconds via internet and 5mins via toll free phone.

thanks i use back up and restore, but it if I want to decide to do a clean install then im stuck. And for online activation dont they limit how many time you can do it. Its installed on one computer, but I am habitual reformater.

Why would you be stuck? You have the COA underneath the comp, correct? And unless your comp hardware has been seriously modified, activation can be done anytime and however many times you need.

    cheers ...

It can be activated after a certain number of times over the internet. After that you have to deal with the automated activation call center. It will ask you how many computers the program is installed. If you answer '1' then it will proceed to activate using the automated system. If you answer more than '1' then you will be connected to a live person and will ask you to the same question.. how many computers it's installed in.. fib and say '1' otherwise he might tell you to buy another. You cannot take a snap shot of the activation numbers because it's only good on that particular date and time you called.
