Does anyone know of a way to make NHC stop setting the screen brightness to the lowest setting upon startup? Sorry if this is the wrong section but I'm on a 1530 with vista... any tips would be appreciated.

NHC has not been developed by the original creator for more than a year. Infact, NHC doesn't properly support Vista and it's capabilities are severely hampered. Infact, your system would always run "full speed" with it installed, which isn't recommended.

You should look into installing RMClock instead, RMClock has the ability to tie in it's profiles with Windows existing power schemes so that you can control your brightness settings whether on Power or battery.n

But can RMClock set the hard drive speed to stop the hard drive clicking noise?

Which HDD ? What sort of Clicking Noise ? The usual buzzzz -> HDD busy/being used....?

You can download PC Wizard 2008, and check in the Drives Section --> 'AAM values'. If its 128, then you can't go any lower.

You can disable indexing, superfetch and assign a fixed page file size to reduce HDD usage. (Make a Restore Point first !!)

You can try setting the HDD Acoustic Mode in Dell BIOS. Don't know if that will help or not.

The last time I checked, dynamic switching didn't work.

Anyway, to answer the OPs question. Download HDDScan. Goto Tasks> Features> and IDE features(not sure why it's called IDE). But make sure you turn up Advanced Power Management all the way up, and turn Automatic Acoustic Management all the way down.

That should get rid of the clicking.
