Hi, I am in a bit of a predicament. I recently installed a ssd in my laptop and while transferring my data over from the old hdd, the new W7 install complained about not having access to my old My Document folder on the hdd and asked for authorization to access it, which I gave. The loading bar moved slowly and I eventually stopped whatever windows was doing to the old files to do something else.

I eventually rebooted into a Linux install to do the file transfer from my documents since I've always had success migrating data that way, but my documents appeared as a symlink with no actual target, the actual folder was still inaccessible while everything else like my pictures, my music, etc. still was. I ended up putting the hdd back in the machine, booted in the old install and tried browsing my documents but it was completely empty. It seems like windows just recreated a new my document folder and the original one is stuck in limbo somewhere on my drive... What happened? I'm currently running the drive through a full file scavenger scan. If someone has a solution to my problem, I'd like to hear your input. I'd very much like to get my Bioware saves back asap... :D

Hopefully your file scavenger scan will find your files. I would suggest Recuva, but I suspect there wouldn't be much difference between the two.

I think that this happened because some of the hidden files in your My Documents weren't copied and they are required for the whole thing to work. You've tried displaying hidden files?

I'd also try running WinDirStat to see if your documents are still on the disk as 'unknown' data.
