    Dear All,

I just got an external monitor and I have extended my display (from my laptop) to the new monitor..

I have a folder open which is on the extended display, but when I open a file from that folder, the file opens in the main display (my laptop)!!

How can I make the file open in the extended display?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

    Cheers.

You might have luck if you open it (on the main screen), drag it to the second screen, extend it, and close it. It might remember to open it on that screen the next time.

Otherwise, I do believe that it is a feature that can be programmed in ULTRAMON ( Realtime Soft UltraMon ), an absolutely lovely productivity application for using multi-monitor setups in Windows.

I think they have a free trial!

That worked.. But now, every time I open that folder / file, it always opens in the extended display! :p :p

Anyway, I haven't checked out Ultramon, I will later. Thanks for that.

For now, I'll try to get used to playing with this "musical chair" kind of displays :D :p Thanks a lot once again. Cheers

No sweat. I don't think you can get a decent mutli-monitor setup without making a lot of custom profiles to deal with the anomalies (I want all excel files on the left monitor!!!....except that one...and that one...)

Also, if you aren't familiar with them yet, Windows Key + Left/Right Arrow are a godsend for multi-monitor displays. It moves windows to the left/right display as required.

    Yes, I agree.

And thanks, I am doing that too, to move windows between displays.. Thanks again. Cheers.
