Ok, gotta admit that I missed all the classes regarding files and saving to hard drives, etc..etc.

So here goes a softball lob question that is driving me crazy.

    1. I copied a file from one laptop to my external hard drive. I then drag and dropped that file onto the desktop of my other laptop. Now I can only use that file when I have the external drive attached. I want to put these files permanently onto the new computer.

May be the same fix on this second issue.

    2. All my itunes music is on this same external HD and I want to put them perm onto my laptop. Right now everytime I want to play tunes I have to hook up the external drive.

Any advise or help....Thanks I have officially run out of patience with this and need outside consult.......aiiiiyyyeeeee

it sounds like you only copied the file short cut to the external folder, not the whole file !!!

when you do it,watch how long it takes, ie a short cut will take a split second, a whole music folder a while depending on the amount !

thats unless you have some sort of external hard drive where its not allowing the moving of the files ? post what external it is exactly

and try this.... open itunes on the laptop, go to preferences ,then advanced, and check the copy music to itunes folder bit when adding to library

then select all the music on the external, and drag it in to the main itunes window on to music at the top right, so it adds it all, or do 1 album to test...and see if it adds it to your laptops itunes folder ! bingo

thats exactly what I did (only copied the shortcut).... What option should I have used......When I went to the second laptop I used the "send to desktop option".....

Ok, control v will only copy and paste the shortcut, correct. How do I get the complete file...It's not big but should take more then the couple seconds that it actually took.

Basic Computing 101..Promise to use it once I get these 2 issues resolved

Thanks a bunch, but I may be checking back if I can't get the hang of it.
