Hello and thanks in advance, this is my first post and I hope I am choosing the right area of the forum

I need to move EVERYTHING: applications, settings, data, etc to my Laptop and synchronize frequently between my Desktop and My Laptop, not just once.

    How would you do that?

P.S.: I have Microsoft XP so I guess I need a 2nd hand Laptop as they all come with Vista and I do not have any intention of upgrading (seen all the problems with Vista).

not to side track but have you ever actually used vista? not celebrating it but hate to see people not try it (if they can) simply because they have "heard" its horrible or read about it. try it out and see for yourself :). i use both xp and vista and they are both great for me.

but besides that, there are many programs that can copy your entire hard drive, try googling it: entire hard drive backup

Check out the Data Backup/Recovery section in this thread. You might want to look around in it for other cool utilities.

There is not something that will do everything you want. Unfortunately, it simply does not exist. Many programs cannot be moved from one computer to another, as installation involves more than just copying of files, such as modifications to the registry. There is also the possible issue with licensing. The best you can do is settings and data. I use ViceVersa Pro for this, but I know Microsoft has release a (believe it or not) free program that works very well. I'll try to remember the name and post back.

EDIT: It's called synctoy, it's in one of the above poster's links.

I agree with kickace's comments about Vista.

    However, regarding the syncing stuff...

You can't just clone the whole hard drive to another computer because of hardware differences, and the need for different drivers. It won't work.

There are plenty of programs around that you can use to sync your files. But as far as applications and settings are concerned... I don't know what the best solution is.
