    Hi,

I'm not at all happy with Vista Business on my Dell Latitude D630 laptop.

I keep reading about Windows 2000 Pro & Windows Server 2003 as Microsoft's best desktop OS ever - can somebody pls. advise ?

I'm Securities Trader & most Trading Softwares are not compatible with Vista.
There's one thing that i really detest about Vista is the Updates that happen almost everyday & causes havoc on the laptop...

    Pls. help - Mave

I think for the most stable and compatible Windows OS would be Windows XP SP2, you're definitely safe using that one!

Windows XP with Service Pack 2 is the latest most stable operating system at this point. Windows 2000 is too dated.

Hey Maverick, have you tried using the compatability options in Vista? Also, the updates can be set to be done manually... If you'd like to know how to do these things, just ask ill gladly inform you. As for what other OS is stable? try XP SP2

Sounds more like a compatibility issue than a stability issue. For what you're doing, just go with XP Professional.

Windows 2000 is a great operating system. Between my business (manufacturing) and my wife's (fitness clubs) I'm responsible for about 17 different computers. Win 2000 is running just fine on about half of them.

If you have a particular application which is known to run best on Win 2000 (or 95 or even DOS for that matter) just do it and don't look back.

Dont do 64bit... it will cause compatability issues too, and you dont need it.

I recommend Windows XP Professional. WinXP is going to get better with SP3 too, so it'll be good for you if you can't stand vista.

Windows XP SP2 is the most stable OS. Vista is only announcement for Vienna ( the new OS from Microsoft), like Windows ME was for XP. I'll keep on XP SP2 till Vienna comes out!
