Notice the serious decline in troubleshooting traffic since the days of XP.

The proof is in the pudding folks. Empirical > anecdotal. Microsoft > all. Techies will now name their kids after Steve Sinofsky.

I love 7. It has been good to me since beta! I have to say that Microsoft did a great job on this one

And now that updated win7 drivers (espec for 64 bit) are starting to supersede the 'compatibility' vista drivers, things are getting very smooth indeed.

With SP1, I really hope that msft re-issues install media with a fully updated driver library. The driver library on the RTM media is almost a year old already.

That is why you have Windows Update :)
And if you really want recent drivers, then just go on the manufacture website and get the drivers for each hardware/peripheral from there.

For drivers I'll let the defaults install, then go to the computer manufacturers site for their most recent versions. From there I'll try out Windows update to see if there are more recent. Lastly I'll start experimenting with original manufacturer drivers like from Intel or nVidia etc. as applicable.........

Edit; It is always good to check out the computer manufacturer every once in a while for driver updates too...........

indeed. after testing out windows vista, i quickly deployed it to all sort of friends that where around. support-requests dropped massively. they just moaned how slow it is sometimes.

now, with win7, and the feelgood publicity, i have the reduced support calls + the happy users.

    i'm happy :)

Well, yeah, except that with nVidia drivers you mention a real sore point. Those seem to get worse the newer they get, and have been half-broken for months now. The 18x series is o.k., sort of, but anything newer than that, forget it...

I guess I'm one of the exceptions. I prefer Vista 64 over Win7 64 (over XP 32) in terms of stability. I've had more problems with Win7 (clean install) than my previous clean install of Vista. For example, I'm watching a video in WMP or typing on Skype, and it will randomly freeze up for 10+ sec. This has happened repeatedly, while I have updated Windows, nVidia drivers, etc. It's also kind of annoying that when I try to close a window that's not responding, it doesn't let me, even via task manager -> end process. Not sure what's the cause, even have brought it up to my friend in MS working on these issues (ie. he tries to crash his Win7 and find instabilities). At least it takes up less HDD and memory and has a nice cleaner look. Plus I like the little things like split screen comparison.

Sounds like driver issues Gogeta, I don't think anyone elses has had those problems.

I love Windows 7, not a single issue yet. When it's as stable as OS X, you know you have a winner.

Nvidia drivers are perfectly fine. Get the latest drivers from Nvidia website, avoid beta's unless you have a specific problem with the official.

Sounds like you forgot to install your motherboard chipset drivers, or sound card drivers, as it seams you have a latency issue.

Heheh, that depends on whether or not you notice little things like broken installers that only half install some of the features, but "forget" to set certain registry keys to make them actually usable (see nview), litter your control panel with duplicate entries, and place incorrect uninstaller entries in your registry; or the fact that 2D acceleration is broken, etc., etc. It's not like these issues are not known all over the internet, either. Believe me, I have invested quite a few hours a couple of weeks ago trying to make the newest "WHQL" driver from nVidia's website behave, and gave up on it.

That's what you think. Like I said, it depends if you know what to look for. Oh, and did I mention nVidia's Control Panel not remembering its settings? ;)

Well this isn't Windows 7 related so it's irrelevant. My control panel always remembers it's settings.

That depends on your netbook specs and GPU (also if you use Aero or not.. in some instances Aero enable can save power due that GPU has a more easy time doing the UI than the CPU). LifeHacker user think otherwise:
