Hello there! I'm new to the ways of changing the OS used on a computer, so I had a question I would like to ask.

Say I bought a laptop that has Microsoft Vista Home Premium already installed. Seeing as I have a copy of Microsoft Vista Ultimate (full version) lying around, is it possible to somehow install Ultimate over the pre-installed Home Premium?

And if it's possible, could someone please point me towards the directions to do this? :D

    Thanks!

Yep, it's certainly possible. In fact, replacing an OS is just as easy as installing one on a new hard drive.

Here's an excellent full guide on how to install Vista Ultimate.

The only difference is, when he selects the empty space to install it on, you'll have to delete the existing partition first. There will be a delete button, so it's pretty self-explanatory.

    Good luck, and have fun.

    Thanks a bunch!

O, and also, is it really worth having Vista Ultimate? Or should I just sell it on eBay for like $200?

    No problem.

It all depends on what features you're going to use... Ultimate is Home Premium + Business, so if you don't think you need the Business features, go ahead and sell it. Here's a edition comparison on Microsoft's website. Really useful, take a look.

I did exactly just that recently from home premium to Ultimate. It took awhile though. No problems.
