Error message: "Word experienced an error trying to open the file." when attempting to open .doc file in MS Word 2010.
Word has worked fine for me, until today. And I could open the file before. I have followed the microsoft support site's suggestions for this error up until the point of reinstalling Word.
Any ideas how to open .doc file? Will really appreciate.

Is there something weird about that file name? Odd characters, spaces, slashes, etc.? Maybe the file got corrupted somehow. You could try opening it in another program like libreoffice which can open Word files. But if the file is corrupted that may not work. Doesn't word do automatic file backups? Try to locate one of those.

Try to open it in Google Docs. If it opens, download/save it from there and try to open it again.

Thanks for the promt replies. Nothing weird about the file’s name. I did not rename it.
LibreOffice does not open file at all. No backup :(

Anytime you see that - that is a good probability that the file is corrupted now.
