    G'day,
I know this is something that many people wouldn't worry about, but, some times it bothers me. I'm referring to when you open of Word down in the bottom left hand corner, it say's "Running virus scan", some times I only want to open Word to check how many characters are in something, and it takes ages for it to go away, is there any way to stop it from doing it or something?

    Thanks In Advance :)

    -Joel

EDIT: Oh and if it helps, I'm using ESET Smart Security.

Well, you can create a new shortcut for winword to open in safemode and it will open quick, but that will not allow you to double click a word file and open automatically, which is what I think you are after

    winword.exe /s

will load word in safe mode without add ons which means it opens SUPER fast

Maybe the OP is wondering the same thing, but in any case what is the disadvantage of disabling all add-ons? Is there a significant loss of functionality?

Depends on the add-ins that are loaded on that machine. Most home user's don't have any add-ins that would cause any loss of functionality. Corporate users might, however.

I would tend to agree. But there are a lot of add-ins so I would not just set this up as the default.

There are more obscure add-ins like those that assist when working with XML, but there are also some pretty basic ones like the AV one mentioned earlier, math symbols, headers and footers, financial symbols, one note links....
