Everytime I open certain MS Word documents and close them, i get a popup window with an error:

My friend also has MS Office 2007 and opening the same simple documents... gets the crash too. I noticed that it's starting to crash even if I make a document that's just purely text!!! VERY ANNOYING AND I COULD LOSE CRITICAL WORK.

Any idea? I don't know why this is happening. I don't ever recall this happening before (used same installer file on my other laptop). The only difference is that my other laptop had Vista Homepremium and this one has Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

What the hell is going on here.

Seems to be related to an HP printer driver problem. This is the clue to it: hpz3r5ha.dll. Solution seems to be update your printer drivers or try changing the default printer to MS XPS.

"I spoke with HP and what we done is defaulted the printer in control panel
to Microsoft XPS Document, as so far all document i opened and closed word
application, it has fixed the problem, HP will bring a Patch to fix the
    error, do not know when."

that was it! thanks! So no patch or new drivers for this? I don't have my original HP drivers, but those never gave a problem... It was only until recetnly when i installed the new ones (about 2 months ago) on my new laptop from their website.

    Thanks!

No problem. You would have to check back with HP's site to find out more.

I prefer Canon or even the new Kodaks. Canon has removable/replacable print heads. Epson doesn't. Unless you print something everyday or so you risk clogging your heads. But since this is about drivers... I still like my Canons.

    Hi Folks...

OK...this is not about a complete crash of Office 2007, but of Word 2007 (which I have as part of the Office 2007 suite).

When I open documents with images, weblinks, text boxes and other such embedded objects, the document is fine. But when I save and then try to close, it says that "An error occured and windows could not close the file - do you want to send an error report. Word will shut down and reopen the word file - any data will be lost etc..."

Now, I can recreate this error anytime for those particualr documents. However, this does not happen with all documents - so, for example, I can open a 400+ page word document with weblinks as footnotes, and nothing happens.

Any insight into what's going on?

    Thanks in advance.

PS: Going by the discussion in this thread, I should also add that I also have and use an HP printer...does that make any difference?

Seems like you have the same issue that too many HP owners are facing. Just give us the fault module.

I think you're referring to the other guy, but anyway, as posted earlier, my fault module is:

I am seriously PO'd about this. I do serious work in office and I print A LOT. I understand setting default printer to other than HP "fixes" the error...but once you print using the HP printer and exit, the error comes anyway...

basically, I'm ****ed. Everytime I print one document and open another to print..and open Power Point (YES THAT CRASHES TOO)...i get an error.

I wouldn't say it fixes the error... just slaps a BandAid on it. It's up to HP and MS to work it out. And yes I was refering to the other poster as to what their fault module was reading. Something worth looking into is whether or not you can replace the faulty .dll with one from a previous driver that isn't faulty.

Well the error I get runs something like this:

" Word cannot open the file ~WRS{87F21E87-6E74-4F04-96FD-092078A168A6} If this file is stored on your computer there may be a hardware problem...."

If there is any other error report that I should post here, do let me know where I can find the log for it and I will post it.

    Thanks

weird... if i actually PRINT something and cancel it, then exit word, No crash at all. But if I don't print, and then exit, it crashes.

    What the hell?

Word 2007 seems to crash a lot for me as well.

I have the Office update and yesterday there were more updates for Office...

I hope those fixed whatever the issue is. At first I thought it was just my computer or the disc I bought from Amazon was corrupted somehow but it appears to be happening to others so it can't be something specifically occurring with only me..

It's going to be up to HP tofix this. Try contacting them and letting them know how unhappy you are. This is not how proper companies should act.

Exactly the same issue, and its a my HP printer driver. It happens both on my laptop and PC so it's definatley not the computers. I have reported it about 10 times and still nothing. I still get my lovley "Microsoft Word has encountered an error and needs to close" and then "Microsoft Word is restarting". HP are useless at fixing problems.

Has anyone tried going back, uninstalling their current print driver, and installing an older driver? Maybe it's the current ones that are F-ing everything up. Is MS Office totally updated?

    I have a pre-office 2007 service pack 1 from a few months before M$ updated office. I didn't try installing that yet.

My friend uses the original dirvers that came with the HP printer and I use the updated ones. Both have the same error.

Turns out this an error from several years back. Some of the dates I am finding go back 4 years! Rediculous to say the least.

I found this in a HP IT Resource area: "Try disabling bidirectional support if it is on? see if that helps." Maybe give it a go?

Another solution is to remove all the bloatware (solution center, etc.) that comes with the HP printer and simply install ONLY the printer driver. The only problem is you won't be able to remotely control your printer to set up scan/fax/whatever if you have those features. You have to do it right at the printer. Print function still works normally and no more MS Office 2007 crashes (for me at least).

This was a fix I found somewhere on the net, and HP confirmed when I called them. Of course, I b**ched them out for keeping it secret and not fixing a known issue, but we all know how that fared.

    Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem after wiping my desktop HDD and re-installing the drivers but then Office 2007 would freeze-up and crash. Ended up going the lazy route and re-installing '03.

Also had to buy another driver CD from HP the officejet b/c none of their files online de-compacted and installed properly. Now its a miracle I've finally set up wireless printing (once again) and thank the stars every time I hear that dang thing print when I'm in another room.

as far as I know, that's what i did. the .dll causing the crash is even in the basic driver install.

Why not? It's actually quite important.

Try installing SP1 and all the updates for Office 2007, it fixes many bugs.

i am having the same issue. I too have an AIO HP printer with the basic print driver installed, and I am getting the same annoying encountered a problem message every time I close any MS Office 2007 program. I installed all the latest updates/patches for Office, and I have the latest basic print driver from HP. I STILL GET THE ANNOYING MESSAGE! I really am starting to hate Microsoft for constantly writing bad code. If anyone knows a work-a-round for this error message, please please please post it here. Thanks in advance.

Yes it is and its registered.

    Also, as someone mentioned above...

I'm starting to HATE microsoft now...My onenote is suddenly starting to crash now (not related to hp driver tho, i dont think). it seems like its one thing after another with them... all these errors... and now they are releasing Windows 7 just a few years after vista came out..what the hell? Just fix vista and keep its name.

I seriously will think about going Apple Mac next time I get a pc, unfortunately, because i'm tired of paying money for bull**** software and glitches.

Honestly, I don't understand your view. MS released SP1 and many patches for Office 2007 to fix "existed" problems, and yet you don't want to install it and blame MS.
