I have a Lifebook AH530 that originally had 4GB 1333mhz of RAM. I swapped it out and put 2GB 1066mhz into it.

I did this around the end of last Christmas. Now I can't exactly remember when but the Lifebook started to shutdown occasionally whenever I tried to wake it back up from sleep. I'll touch the mouse, push a key to wake it, the laptop will spring to life with the fan spinning for about 2 seconds, then shut down.

Could the memory be causing this?

    Someone please shed some light.

Run Memtest, you could let it run overnight. It should reveal faulty memory.

Even 1 bad bit revealed in MemTest86+ means you need to ditch the whole stick, by the way.
