I often find myself watching a video with MPC and pausing in the middle to do something else. However, when, after the video is paused, I lock the computer, put it to sleep, or hibernate it, and then resume my session, I find that MPC will no longer open from the taskbar, even though sometimes I can still see a thumbnail of it. If I left MPC open instead of minimizing it, it just doesn't respond. To close it, I need to go through the Task Manager and terminate it manually. This can also occur if I leave MPC open and then play a game.

I have Vista x64, but this also occurred in Vista x86. It did not happen in XP. I have also tried it using different codec packs. Please don't tell me to use another media player, as I have been through plenty and still prefer MPC.

Why don't you use K-Lite Codec Pack?
filehippo.com has this to say about K-Lite (much, much better than windows media player):
K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs, DirectShow filters and tools. Codecs and DirectShow filters are needed for encoding and decoding (playing) audio and video formats. The K-Lite Codec Pack is designed as a user-friendly solution for playing all your movie files. With the K-Lite Codec Pack you should be able to play all the popular audio and video formats and even some rare formats.

You can download this free software at:

I'm not sure you understood my question. First of all, I use the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. Second of all, the problem is with the player, not the codecs.
