Hey guys, I'm looking for a free program to let me convert files like .avi with DivX or RealVideo codec into Xvid. Another issue I'm having is that some of the media files have AC3 audio while I want MP3 audio.

The main reason I want this stuff is because my media player (Archos 605wifi) wants me to PAY like 30 bucks for questionable (I've read about it not working) support for some of these codecs while stuff like RealVideo (I think) is not supported.

Thanks guys, if I've missed this in some other threads, please let me know :)

You can try either SUPER or PocketDivXEncoder. Both are available in the thread on best free windows software. I would recommend pocketdivxencoder first as I find it easier to use and has auto resize features for portable devices, but I am not sure if it supports AC3 audio. Super should definently work but you will have to choose all the encoding optons.

Yeah I'm using Super now...it just hates me, my computer, or something. Pretty regularly it'll give me some kind of blatant error type of message; it's pretty frustrating.

If you search for "transcoder" on google, you will probably get more results. There's also a nifty one that's completely based on free (as in speech and beer) tools called mediacoder that works pretty well from my experience. I'd give it a try if I were you.
