I am working on a friend's comp and I'd like to disable McAfee without actually removing. I removed all the McAfee apps from MSConfig but on restart they've reinerted themselves to the start up list.

I don't really want to just uninstall it because it was downloaded and she doesn't know how to redownload it if she would ever want it.

    Any ideas?

Well, if you don't want on-access scanning you can uninstall...then reinstall but uncheck the on-access scanner. That's what I did, and it freed up a TON of resources. As far as removing the startup for VSConsole I'm not sure. I haven't tried that.
