Anyone know how to do this? I heard that a new TCP was going to be included with Vista but at default is turned off... Does it help?

You can't do anything about it...

IPv6 is a new, longer type of IP adress because there are no more available

Do you mean increasing the maximum TCP connections? I know how to do it. I've been using it for quite a while, as it speeds up anything that has to do with the internet.

Look for a tcpip.sys patcher. I haven't done it on a Vista system, but I reset the limit on my XP system from 10 (SP2 dropped it from 65,536 to 10) to 200 with some advanced anti-spyware program. Browsing the internet and downloading files while browsing became noticable faster (Opera defaults to 8 connections per server, which is considered pretty greedy by web standards, and 20 overall).

I think this is a pretty dumb move by Microsoft to address the symptoms, not the causes. If a worm breaks out, it'll now take 1 minute to infect a billion billion computer instead of 5 seconds. (If all the computers were using Vista Home Basic, with its gimped max of 5 half-open connections, it'd take maybe 20 more seconds).

    1. IPv6 is enabled by default in Vista and doesn't affect download speeds.
    2. You can use a TCP registry hack or install IE8 (MS increased this by default in IE8)

    Taken from http://unlockforus.blogspot.com/2008/02/simple-ways-to-tweak-your-network-and.html

    How-To Change the settings manually:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
    DWORD: MaxConnectionsPerServer
    DWORD: MaxConnectionsPer1_0
For both, you can set a value of 10 to have a maximum of ten connections per server. WOW!

Does anyone see those entries in that path? I don't even see them. All i see is: DefaultConnectionSettings and SavedLegacySettings which only accept binary values.

You can use firefox hacks for sending 30 Requests per instance.

    Also enable pipelining..

Also, in XP .. 20% bandwidth is reserved for QoS scheduler.. which are windows services.. u can use Orbit downloader to disable it for get max 100%

all these are old tricks but they are the most popular too

in Vista.. u cannot do much but use Firefox hacks.

I suggest everyone who has SP1 do the Manual version instead.(Auto patch will be quite a hassle to boot)

Why do you say that? If you have Vista Sp1, download v2 and follow the instructions on the site.
Manual patch? Did you have problems with the auto-patch?

It would be redundant if you did have to, so most likely you only have to do it once.

How will I know that my patch worked????

Even though I followed instructions it always goes to startup repair and so I let it repair the startup but will it alter the new tcpip.sys file??

I just want yo confirm that I am now using the new settings.

Do a search for tcpip.sys, and check the date created/modified. If it's not the date you did the hack, then you still have the original.

Ummm there are 2 tcpip.sys both have the same dates.

The only diffenrece noticeable right now is hat I have a 50ms lose in PING during a speedtest

Was that an effect of the patch?????

One is "tcpip.sys" and one is "tcpip.sys.original". Check "tcpip.sys". Also, I'm not sure about the MS lag.

you have to create those values.

If you want to see the effect. Here's the thread

Guys, I'm interested about the TCPIP.sys patched.
Who created the file? Is it Legal to redistribute the file with a
    GUI utility? thanks in advance

It's probably not legal to redistribute their file, but if you incorporate the actual hack into your program that's fine.

thanks for the prompt response calvin.

will wait a bit for the process to mature, as a couple of users have reported messages and errors when starting vista.

    thanks anyways.

It's kind of already as good as it can get, and system restore will help you if you need it. The next time it'll get updated is when Vista SP2 is out.
