    Hello everyone,
I am trying to fix my sisters Laptop which is an MX 6955. Originally I tried to install the XP OS but, kept getting the error NO OS or Unable to locate HDD.
So I have used the Recovery disc & have done both the Full System Restore
( Destructive) & ( With backup). It finishes but, once it is ready to restart & is.... it goes into a LOOP or repetitive mode & ends up back to the System Restore screen over & over & over & over.
I have reformatted the drive & nothing but the same. I even put the drive in my P-6860 FX Laptop & formatted it in their with no luck. Even when I reload the recovery disc info. Does anyone have any ideas??? Thanks, Jason

I would use DBAN to completely wipe the drive and then try again.

I second atbnet. Although DBAN isn't really needed in these types of situations, but the symptoms make me curious of there is an issue with the recovery disc replacing the boot files. One pass of 0's is sufficient.

I also want to add that the issue you were having with XP sounds like a SATA issue. If you have a SATA drive it is necessary to either slipstream the appropriate RAID controller into the XP CD or select 'compatibility mode' if available in the BIOS. (Since you took the drive out I'm sure you know better than I where it is SATA or PATA :) .)

I would also use a hard drive diagnostic tool to see if the drive is faulty. There are several on the Ultimate Boot CD: http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ .
