I'm having some trouble with Microsoft Word. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium and MS Office 2003. I have ran Office 2003 in the past few months with no problems at all. Now, I'm at college where I need it the most and it's giving me problems. For example, in Word, when I try to open a document I get a message saying, "The file (file name) is not available." In the past, I was able to open any document without any kind of problem. Also, when I try to close Word another message appears saying, "The file Normal already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" I click "No", then a file folder opens with the "Normal" Document template showing as the only file. I exit out the file folder and try to exit of Word again and another message appears saying, "Changes have been made that affect the global template, Normal. Do you wish to save those changes?" I click "No" and Word finally exits?

Any ideas on what is going on? I need to get this fixed ASAP. I performed virus scans and adware scans, both showed some infections/threats so those were deleted and the problem still occurs. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

It might be caused by an Add-In (i.e. an Anti-virus Office Add-in).

If not the above, have you messed with any of the settings in Options which is related to templates? (i.e. Template Locations)

Also, do you have access to the install CD? Maybe doing a reinstall is better.

Reinstall not necessarily needed.. its a fixable issue, albeit with a little effort... if it doesn't work, then you could do try a reinstall / repair.. but for now I would try to fix it...

    Hi...

I am also facing one peculiar kind of a problem with Word 2007. This only happens sometimes. Say I have three documents open. One of them is about 200 pages long...the others are less than 20 pages. When I close any one document, I get an error message saying that 'there was a problem in closing the document, Word will now close and reopen...or something to that effect!

This does not happen all the time. It also can happen when I have only 1 document open regardless of the length. However, it has always happened when the document has some content in it - text etc. It never happens with a blank document.

I have kept my Office 2007 suite updated with the most recent updates; I run XP SP 3 on the machine and that is also updated.

    Any ideas?

    Thanx
