Hi again. I have yet another question. I haven't found anything on the internet...

I have 4 rather long mpeg (30 min each) and would like to put thin on a DVD with a working menu and such. Are there any programs that can do this? Would it be interchangeable with *.wmf files?

MPEG is a bit too vague, good starting places: Afterdawn & VideoHelp.

MPEG-1/2/3/4? What type of video/audio compression is used?

If you want to skip all the technical crap, just try Nero 7 Ultra. If you don't own it, they have a trial version. Within Nero 7 Ultra, you'll probably want to use Nero Vision 4.

From this point I can't really offer any further suggestions, except when you've configured everything the way you want it, don't burn directly to the dvd, instead choose the option to save as a disk image.
